Is a new global currency coming? #brics #dollar

About this video

What exactly is BRICS, and why is this group becoming increasingly important in the global economy?

The story of BRICS began in 2001, when Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill coined the term “BRIC” for Brazil, Russia, India and China. At the time, BRIC was not a formal political or economic organization.

In 2010, South Africa joined the group, turning BRIC into BRICS. Over time, BRICS evolved into a platform for political dialogue and economic cooperation among emerging economies.

Then came a major expansion in 2024, when Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates joined, significantly increasing BRICS' presence across Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

So, what does BRICS actually want?

The group aims to strengthen economic cooperation, increase trade and investment among member countries, and give emerging economies a stronger voice in global institutions such as the IMF and World Bank.

BRICS has also established the New Development Bank (NDB), which finances infrastructure and sustainable development projects in developing countries.

One of the most discussed goals of BRICS is increasing the use of local currencies in international trade, potentially reducing dependence on the US dollar.

But does this mean BRICS can actually challenge the dominance of the US dollar and reshape the global economic system?

Watch the video to understand what BRICS is, why it is expanding, and what its growing influence could mean for the future of the global economy.
